Iโm a filmmaker and photographer at heart, so any chance I get to be behind the camera will be taken. My morning commute had so much traffic, I had time to film, edit and render a video of said traffic (please drive responsibly ๐ ). This whole process took me all of 25 minutes and I want to share a few storytelling tips with you all.

Think about the story youโd like to tell and how the audience will perceive it. Stories can be told using your voice, on-screen visuals, images, video clips, music, gestures and facial expressions and color among many other elements. Mix these elements together to formulate the message you want to send.

Make sure your cuts are clean and you use transitions that match with the scene. The most common type of transition is called a jump cut โ where the scene abruptly changes from one clip to the next. These types of transitions are great when editing on beat or when you want to quickly change perspectives.

A less talked about tip is to use your phone! The device in your pocket has the ability to capture video and sound, edit, render and share your content on a single charge and without hassle. Milk the capabilities of your device until you have no choice but to upgrade to something more robust, although you may never have to.
Donโt be so hellbent on making something โperfectโ it prevents you from creating. Half of my art is produced on my phone and the other half with a DSLR. Nine out of ten times I use a mix of both when switching between angles.

Lastly, put your skills, your equipment and your software first. Learn as much as you can, watch YouTube videos on the topics you want to learn about and take notes. I guarantee you there is a free video for anything you want to learn.
You donโt have to break the bank to make a quality film. Invest in equipment you can afford and that makes sense for your production. Most times your phone, a battery operated, rechargeable light and a simple microphone will do it. You can always add on as you grow.
BUY YOUR SOFTWARE OR PAY THE MONTHLY FEE!!! Sometimes youโll need more than the features of the free version to get the look you want. Unlocked versions of apps will provide you with more resources and unlimited upgrades (this is also something you can claim on your taxes*).
Do you want more production tips? Leave a comment or send me a DM and Iโll tell you all that I know โจ
