I just got back from a funeral—the father of my brother’s wife passed away. OnlyFans isn’t exactly the place for this, but I’ll say a few words about him anyway. I never knew him personally—he’d been divorced from my sister-in-law’s mom for a long time. But he was an incredibly talented anesthesiologist and intensive care specialist, one of the very best. He had many hobbies and excelled at everything he did. He was a reserved, introspective man—my mom called him a ‘Byronic figure.’
To my sister-in-law, he was deeply beloved—a sort of ‘weekend dad,’ leaving her with memories full of adventures and new skills. But, sadly, alcoholdestroyed him. First, he lost his driver’s license, then his gun permit (guns were his passion), and finally his medical career. He spiraled into severe alcoholism, spending the last five years in a near-constant binge. Hospitalizations became routine. Recently, he started having violent seizures—I studied his face in the casket for a long time; it was covered in bruises. His nose was also broken strangely, the bridge deeply sunken. (I’ve always had a fascination with examining the dead.)
Two days ago, he collapsed and died of a massive heart attack on his way to the store. In a way, it’s for the best—my sister-in-law had been terrified he’d die at home and his cat would gnaw on his face.
During the church service, I was struck by the sheer number of genuinely grieving people, crying openly. The most heart-wrenching was his elderly mother in her wheelchair beside the casket, sobbing uncontrollably. This son had been her golden boy—she’d pinned all her hopes on him becoming a doctor, always supported him. Yet in the end, her real support came from her other son, the one always dismissed as ‘slow’, ‘simple’ and not very smart in general. Funny how life works.
I woke up starving this morning, so I was thrilled to finally hit the post-funeral meal. I’d planned to devour everything but only managed two pies and some broth.
Please, take care of yourselves. Stay healthy. Don’t drink. Don’t do drugs🫶
