I was sat in the bookstore, lost in this book Annihilation, big ‘ol sweater pulled over my hands. I barely noticed you sat on the floor, like me, back leaning against a bookshelf as if it were comfortable. Both of our postures will be shot, but the paper against our fingertips feels good, and the existing but indistinguishable conversations and pages flipping around us was just enough of a distraction to put us in the zone.
“______” you said, and I swear I almost ignored it, assuming you weren’t talking to me, but then I looked up, and… you’re looking directly at me over your book. I couldn’t quite make out what you’re reading. Cute enough that I put my bookmark in, closed the cover, and sat up a little bit to humor this conversation.
Somehow, we ended up at my place, and we pretended this would be a casual reading date. I take my bed, and you’re sat across the room stealing glances at me as you flip through the pages. Naturally, I did what I do best, potentially against my better judgment. I flashed you between chapters, just enough to watch your eyes jolt from your book, then go back to reading, smiling lowkey knowing exactly what I’m doing.
What line did you use to catch my attention? And did we end up fucking, or did we hold onto the tension until we meet again surrounded by shelves?
