Whisky (mostly spelled whiskey in the USA 🇺🇸 ) is a spirit obtained by distilling fermented grain mash and matured in wooden barrels.
Within the European Union, whisky must meet the following specified criteria:
* It must be obtained by distilling cereal malt mash.
* It must be distilled to an alcohol content of less than 94.8% by volume.
* It must be aged for at least three years in wooden barrels with a capacity of 700 liters or less.
* It must have a minimum alcohol content of 40% by volume
